Scope & Sequence

This is a very loose plan of how we run our lessons. It is just a skeleton because everyone's situation is different and everyone has different styles. We like to do as much co-teaching as possible. And when it's appropriate we split the class and one group does an art activity and the other does a literacy activity, then they switch. Feel free to change things up for your students! Maybe you would have more read-alouds, or maybe you would have more formative projects. You know what will work best for your group!

These bookmaking lessons, you will see, follow the framework of the Stripling Model of Inquiry. Students investigate many different models of picture books, and experiment with different ways to convey their particular message. Their inquiry question is "How do I convey my message in the picture book format?" The unit is aligned to the Empire State Information Fluency Continuum and relies heavily on

AASL Standards for Learners
The bookmaking unit is aligned with the AASL framework. Students are engaging in sustained inquiry, they are using and creating a variety of different formats and media. They are also giving and receiving feedback. You will find that these skills are embedded throughout the AASL national standards
